Come join The Ujima Project, an arm of the Center for Public Integrity. We are data geeks who live and breathe data. We believe that accurate data and data analysis allows for better decision making. We solve data challenges facing governments, media firms, NGOs, and other organizations around the world. If working with a group of smart, worldly, and brilliant people is what you are looking for, come speak with us.
Positions: We are looking for software developers, database experts, multi-media wizards, and marketing gurus. All positions start as 12-week internships after which you will be considered for a full-time position.
Volunteers & Partnerships: We believe in making public data easy to find and use. If you would like to volunteer in helping us to research data sources, to analyze them, and to build applications, we welcome your help. If you are interested in partnering with us and exploring way of working together please contact us here on how we can work together. We are always looking for software developers, data experts, and very creative people who can work with us in building platforms that allow better access to data.
Software Developers: You are a nerd – a very, very smart one. You love solving programming challenges. You live on caffeine and spend many a night writing super cool apps. You are comfortable across many languages and can pick up new ones fast. You are excellent at RoR or PHP and MySQL. You are comfortable with or at least can quickly learn Ajax, JSON, JQuery, Google APIs and other tools.
Database Experts: You can look at raw data formats in PDFs and web pages and design data schemas in your head. You must have strong database programming skills. You know your entities, ER diagrams, normalizations, data schemas very well. Proficiency in MySQL is a must.
Research & Multi-media Wizards: You love Sherlock Holmes or Poirot or at least inspector Clouseau?! You know how to find stuff. You have terrific attention to detail. You can create art, moving art with even mundane topics. You can produce multimedia presentations and are comfortable with video technology, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and high school algebra.
Marketing Gurus: You can get things done. You are comfortable with excel and databases. You are good at basic math. You can find new leads, talk to clients, expand products and services and you love selling but are also good at providing customer support.
We are located at 17th and K, NW in Washington, D.C., close to both the Farragut North (Orange) and Farragut West (Blue) metro stops.
